SEL is our focus.
The Center for Academic, Social, and Emotional learning, CASEL, defines socio-emotional learning as the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. We know SEL to include the employable soft skills students need to maintain effective careers. SEL skills are also need to maintain the adult independence on college campuses for academic success. At MLK, we offer a variety SEL based programs to enhance student performance.
Our programs include Link Crew, NOW ( Not on Our Watch anti-bullying program) , Student Advisory, Peer Mediation, and a student led Conditions For Learning focus group.
