• Matthew Grimes, Spanish
Matt likes to brag that he is "living the dream" when it comes to teaching and urban education. Originally from upstate New York, Matt moved to Cleveland to work with CMSD in the summer of 2014. Prior to moving to Cleveland, he taught in Harlem and Phoenix, and worked for several education organizations both locally and abroad.
Aside from his experiences working with urban youth, Matt joins Campus International with a wealth of international experiences. He earned his undergraduate degree in Spanish and International Studies from Siena College in Albany, NY where he spent two semesters abroad living and studying in Spain and Ecuador. Matt also led several service trips the Dominican Republic and spent a summer studying sustainable tourism in the highlands of Bolivia. After graduating from college, Matt was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach in English in Argentina for a year. Upon his return Matt spent a year working as a Study Abroad and International Student Advisor at the College of Saint Rose in New York. To date, Matt has visited over 10 different countries in Latin America and close to 20 states in the U.S.
Aside from teaching Matt enjoys being a vegetarian, listening to "Hamilton" and exploring new places.
Matt is excited to join Campus International, where he hopes to bridge the gap between Urban and International education by creating meaningful cross-cultural experiences for all. He is also excited to share his many travel experiences with others, using the world as his classroom.
