CLEVELAND, Ohio – Students at Franklin D. Roosevelt elementary school have a very short walk to the Boys and Girls Club after school.
Just down a few steps and through a door. Or just into the gym, cafeteria or atrium of the school itself.
The Cleveland school district and the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland this week started a brand-new after-school program that is far more comprehensive than others in the district. On Monday, the Boys and Girls Club opened a club right inside the school building.
When the school day ends at 2:30 p.m., students can step right into Boys and Girls Club activities, without having to leave the building. Until the club closes at 6 p.m., there will be tutoring, homework help, computer classes, art projects and sports. Field trips, too.
