CMSD’s Teach Cleveland Campaign has fielded nearly 1,000 applications from educators eager to be part of reform and make a difference for students.

As of last week, the District had received 963 applications for teaching positions since recruiting began Nov. 1. CMSD estimates it will need more than 300 teachers for the 2015-16 school year because of retirements and other departures.
Teach Cleveland, in its second year, has stepped up its recruiting of groups that are underrepresented in the current workforce.

A breakdown shows that 32 percent of the applicants are black, 5 percent are Hispanic and 28 percent are male. The current 2,800-member teaching corps is 27 percent black, 4 percent Hispanic and 23 percent male.

The Cleveland Plan, a blueprint for education reform in the city, emphasizes recruiting exemplary principals and teachers who can “change the trajectory of children’s lives.”
