The annual Excellence in Teaching Award program is seeking nominations of CMSD teachers whose outstanding classroom practices make them models for their peers.
The awards program, which began last year, is a partnership between the Cleveland and George Gund foundations, the Cleveland Teachers Union and CMSD.
Teachers, principals and academic staff may nominate teachers by going to teachexcellenceaward.org. The deadline is May 22.
The awards recognize teachers who demonstrate instructional expertise, creativity and innovation, make learning engaging, vibrant and relevant and set a standard for excellence. The goal is to inspire teachers and bring attention to exemplary teaching in the District.
Approximately 10 winning teachers will each receive $5,000. In return, they will agree to share their practices through steps such as providing sample lessons, opening their classrooms for observation, blogging or conducting workshops.
Winners will be announced in October and honored at a gala in November.
