Cleveland Schools Making Academic Progress
CLEVELAND– The Cleveland School District remains in academic distress, but is making enough progress to avoid falling under state control.
State Superintendent Richard Ross held a press conference Monday afternoon with Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and Cleveland Schools CEO Eric Gordon.
Ohio law usually requires the superintendent to place a struggling district under control of a state-run commission.
But, Ross said both he and the state legislature support Cleveland’s plan to transform its schools.
So, Monday, Ross granted a waiver to keep the district under Gordon’s control.
