All-City Musical nominated for 5 awards
CMSD NEWS BUREAU
All-City Arts' production of "Bring It On: The Musical" and its cast have been nominated for five regional Dazzle Awards.
The 19th annual All-City Musical, presented April 27-29 at the Ohio Theatre on Playhouse Square, was nominated for Best Ensemble/Chorus and Best Choreography Execution. Miraya Russell, who played the role of Nautica, was nominated for Best Featured Performer, while Anastasia Cobb (Bridget) and Stephan Hall (LaCienega) were nominated for best supporting actress and actor, respectively.
The All-City Musical is staged annually at Playhouse Square in partnership with the Musical Theater Project and The Human Fund. In addition to the three-day run for the general public, the cast performs matinees for CMSD students.
Teachers are provided with resources that can be used to examine each production's underlying themes and lessons -- in this case, the subjects included inclusion and gender equality.
Playhouse Square hosts the Dazzle Awards, which are presented by Patricia and John Chapman and affiliated with the Broadway League Foundation’s National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as “The Jimmy Awards."
Toddy Meaney of Fox 8 will emcee the awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. May 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Playhouse Square's Connor Palace. This year, participating students will walk the “PNC Red Carpet” as they enter.
