CMSD has scheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony for one new school and a groundbreaking for another.
The District will hold a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at William Rainey Harper PreK-8 School, a new school and building located at 5515 Ira Ave. in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood.
Harper opened Aug. 13 with preschool through third grade and will add a grade per year until reaching the eighth grade. The school is the third in the District to follow the International Baccalaureate model, joining Campus International K-8 and Campus International High School.
On Thursday, Sept. 6, CMSD will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new high school at 4600 Detroit Ave. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.
The school, which is to be completed in 2020, will be built on the former site of Max S. Hayes High School. Max Hayes, which specializes in career-technical education, moved three years ago to a new building at West 65th Street and Clark Avenue.
The new high school will be part of efforts to capitalize on new housing development on the West Side.
