Memorial at former school site honors 3

A dedication will be held Sunday for a memorial honoring three people whose histories crossed at the former site of a CMSD elementary school.
The marker pays tribute to Stephen E. Howe, a District administrator for whom the school was named; the Rev. Bruce Klunder, an activist who was accidentally killed during a protest over the school's construction in 1964; and Chadey Anderson, a kindergartner at Howe who died in a drive-by shooting in 1993.
The school was demolished within the last year. Retired Principal Anna Smith appealed to the District to ensure that a tree planted in Chadey's memory was spared. Chief Operating Officer Patrick Zohn agreed and arranged to have CMSD, which still owns the property, add the memorial.
The ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday.
