Collinwood principal steps up to dance challenge (video)
CMSD NEWS BUREAU
Collinwood High School students issued a challenge that they didn’t think Principal Maria Carlson could meet: Get to all of the school’s “family time” groups and learn a dance from each.
Carlson always pushes students to take on daunting tasks, so she could hardly say no. But she had only two days.
To find out whether she succeeded, view this contributed video that was shot in November.
The gender-based family time groups meet with an adviser every day for about a half-hour and concentrate on what is called “social emotional learning.” According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning, which includes CMSD, social and emotional learning helps students to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
