John Marshall principals announced

CMSD has named the principals who will head up the schools at the new John Marshall Campus.

Sara Kidner will leave SuccessTech Academy after three years to lead the John Marshall School of Civic and Business Leadership.

Timothy Primus will head the John Marshall School of Engineering and Chelsea Cook will serve as principal of the John Marshall School of Information Technology.

Tiffiany James, who has led John Marshall High School, will serve as principal for the 11th- and 12th-graders who will continue to attend classes at the campus as they work toward graduation.
Primus and Cook are in the first class of CMSD’s Aspiring Principals Academy. Prospective principals who enter the program are tested as they serve alongside a mentor for a year. They then can apply for open positions.

Cook formerly was a science teacher in San Antonio, Texas, while Primus was an assistant principal in the Durham, N.C., public schools. Primus has spent this year at CMSD’s East Tech High School, while Cook is at New Tech West.
The launch of the three small schools will coincide with the opening of a new building to replace John Marshall High School.

A planning committee selected themes for the school based on a study of regional needs. The committee's goal was to come up with concepts that would prepare students for the 21st Century economy and lead them to high-paying jobs, regardless of whether they pursue a college education, take other postsecondary training or immediately obtain a certificate.
