Richard A. Boyd 1995-1997
Dr. Richard Boyd, former Lakewood Public Schools Superintendent, was appointed Interim Superintendent of the Cleveland Public Schools by Dr. Ted Sanders, State Superintendent in April 3, 1995-1997. His most important challenge during his term was to raise the educational excellence of the Cleveland schools while working to make the district’s operations more efficient and bring its financial house in order. Joined by Mayor Michael R. White, Boyd announced on March 9, 1996, a decentralization plan to “transform the school system into a system of schools.” The plan also called for creating a School-Community Covenant to act upon the plan. Boyd left Cleveland to accept a job as Interim State Superintendent of Mississippi Public Schools. | |
