Choose a school by March 16 for best chance of getting first pick
Students and families have until March 16 to ensure the best chance of enrolling in the school of their choice next school year.
CMSD is a portfolio district, offering a variety options so students can find the one that best fits their needs. Students may attend any school in the District, provided that there is space available and, in a few cases, they meet admissions criteria.
Students can still choose schools after March 16 but responding before the deadline will improve chances of getting their first selections. A lottery will be held if the number of requests exceeds the number of available seats. Results will be announced March 22.
The District has published a High School Choice Book that may be found here.

Conferences scheduled March 24
Schools will hold parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, March 24.
The state law that supports The Cleveland Plan requires parents to have face-to-face meetings with their children’s teachers at least once a year.
Last school year, parents and caregivers representing 80 percent of CMSD students met with teachers. The District is pushing for even greater participation this year.

District pilots bike, pedestrian safety program
Six CMSD schools will pilot a bicycle and pedestrian safety program for second-graders this spring.
Charles Dickens, Charles A. Mooney, Harvey Rice, Marion C. Seltzer, George Washington Carver and Patrick Henry schools will participate in the program, which the St. Luke’s Foundation funded with a $15,560 grant.

CMSD to host 'citywide read'
In 1938, Lisa Jura’s mother put her on a train in Vienna and said goodbye for what proved to be the last time. The 14-year-old Jewish girl was beginning a trip to England, fleeing with thousands of other children aboard the kindertransport as the Nazis tightened their grip on Austria.
“Never stop playing,” Lisa’s mother told her daughter, a child prodigy who would go on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London and become a concert pianist, “and I will be with you every step of the way.”
More than three-quarters of a century later, Lisa’s daughter, Mona Golabek, will portray her mother and tell Lisa Jura’s inspiring story in a one-woman show, “The Children of Willesden Lane,” for 5,000 to 6,000 ninth-graders from CMSD and suburban schools. Willesden Lane was the location of the orphanage where Lisa spent the war.
