High School Choice Fair
set for Feb. 1
CMSD offers more high school options than ever, and more students are exercising their right to choose.
The District allows students to attend any school, provided there is room and, in a few cases, they meet admissions criteria. Open enrollment for the 2017-18 year begins Monday and will continue through March 13. For most criteria schools the deadline is Feb. 13.
For the current school year, 3,644 students submitted selections, double the number from two years earlier. Most of the students were eighth-graders making the pivotal decision of where to attend high school. Seven out of 10 eighth-graders picked their schools.
Current eighth-graders are exploring their options with the help of a High School Choice Book published by the District. Students and families can browse school booths when CMSD holds its annual High School Choice Fair from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 1 at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center, 2000 Prospect Ave. E. Free parking will be available in a CSU garage at East 21st Street and Prospect Avenue, and free food will be served.

Commuter ads praise attendance gains
|
District students have improved their attendance, and if some RTA passengers have not heard the news yet, they soon will.
|
Starting Feb. 1, when buses pass one of 10 select schools, a recording of Browns players Cameron Erving or Xavier Cooper will announce the school by name.
The player will then explain that RTA, Commuter Advertising and the Cleveland Browns Foundation want to congratulate the District as a whole on attendance gains. The player will close by telling students “Keep on getting to school. You can make it.” The spots will run until the end of the school year.
