Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Fifth grade Language Arts and Social Studies! My name is Mrs. Burkhardt and I will be your child’s teacher. This is my 20th year teaching in CMSD and my first year here at Newton D. Baker School of Arts.

I am excited to be a part of a great staff and school community. I have very high expectations for this year and am looking forward to working with your children!

Our breakfast is from 8:50-9:10. School begins at 9:10. Lunch is from 12:30-1:10. We dismiss at 3:40. If your child will be absent, please call the office. When your child returns to school, please send in a doctor’s note or excuse. If you would like to visit our class or meet with me, please give at least 24 hours notice by sending a note or calling the office to set up a time.

I will check email a couple times a day at varying times due to our schedule.

Please see the attached school supply list and send these items to school as soon as possible. All of the items will need to be replenished throughout the school year.

Homework will be sent home Monday through Thursday each week. I will begin sending homework the second week of school. Students are expected to complete and return homework daily! It is a reinforcement of what we have been learning and practicing in class. Your help at home is critical to your child’s success.

I will be using Class Dojo in class this year. This is a program to help students earn positive points for behavior and class participation. This program also allows for home/school communication with a messaging feature. More information about this app and how to sign up will be sent home very soon.
