On behalf of the entire Hannah Gibbons-STEM staff, I would like to welcome you and your child to the 2019-2020 school year at Hannah Gibbons. We are very excited about the opportunity to work with you and your child this year. The information below outlines some basic information for the start of school.

Additionally, we would like to send a huge congratulations to Mrs. Wilkins, our previous Assistant Principal, who has been promoted to Principal of Warner Girls Leadership Academy. We are also excited to have Ms. Galindo join the second grade team. We are excited and energized for this school year.
A common saying in education is “Every Minute Counts” and it’s true. Being absent, late or picked up early can have a negative impact on student achievement. Please make sure your child is in attendance and on time every day that school is in session. Call the school to report an absence and complete an excused absence form upon your child’s return to school. Data reveals that scholars that miss 10 or more days of school a year are 34% less likely to graduate, score 12 points less on reading assessments and 15 points less on math assessments.
We will adhere to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District dress code. Students are permitted to wear dark blue/navy, khaki/tan, or black solid color bottoms (pants, knee length shorts, capris, skirts, jumpers or skorts, denim is not permitted),not and white, navy or light blue tops (long or short sleeved polos or oxford shirts, turtlenecks, sweaters, vests, and cardigans). A belt is required to be worn with all bottoms with belt loops. Jogging pants, jeans/denim, leggings, collarless (T shirts) shirts, hoodies, headgear, tops or bottoms with logos/stripes/insignias are not authorized. Students arriving to school in unauthorized dress code item/s will be asked to change. The building is air conditioned. At times, the temperature inside the building can be much cooler that the temperature outside. Your child is welcome to bring a hoodless white, navy, or light blue sweater or fleece jacket. If you need assistance with obtaining a school uniform for your child, please contact the school.
Breakfast begins promptly at 8:40 AM. Students in grades kindergarten through four will pass through the security checkpoint at the Main Entrance and proceed to the cafeteria for breakfast. Students in grades five through eight will pass through the security checkpoint at the Main Entrance and proceed to the gymnasium. All persons entering the school must pass through the security checkpoint at the Main Entrance. All visitors will need to present a State issued ID at the Main Office, this is for the protection of every scholar.
School ends at 3:40 PM. During dismissal, students who are picked up via car will exit the Main Entrance. Students in grades Kindergarten through four, who walk to and from school, will exit the door opening onto the basketball court. Students in grades five through eight, who walk to and from school, will exit the door that opens onto the playground. Bus riders will exit the cafeteria door. Please complete the form on the opposite side of the Emergency Form so that we have accurate dismissal information. Any changes to your child’s dismissal arrangements must be made prior 3:00 PM by notifying the school in writing or by contacting the Main Office at (216) 838-0750 before 3:00 PM. Verbal directives from students will not be honored.
We will also adhere to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Acceptable Use Policy for cell phones and other electronic devices. According to the policy, cell phones and other electronic devices are only to be used during the instructional day with permission from and under the supervision of a teacher or administrator for educational purposes and/or in the event of an emergency. There is no acceptable use in hallways (except under the conditions outlined above), restrooms, cafeteria, etc. Cell phones are required to be powered completely off (not on silent or vibrate) and stored in a purse, book bag or locker. Students sending or receiving phone calls, emails, texts, and/or messages during the instructional day is not allowable. Violations of the CMSD Acceptable Use policy will result in your child’s phone being confiscated. If you need to contact your child before the end of the school day, please call the Main Office at (216) 838-0750.
Emergency, Dismissal, Media Consent & Internet Acceptable Use Forms
Your child will receive Emergency, Dismissal, Media Consent and Internet Acceptable Use forms from their classroom teacher. The information contained in these forms will be reviewed with your child. Please complete, sign and return these forms on or before August 16, 2019. Also, don’t forget to include your email address on your child’s Emergency Form.
