    CMSD Summer Learning Experience

    Organization: Cleveland Metropolitan School District

    The CMSD Summer Learning Experience is back for a second year with something for scholars in preschool through 12th grade. The program will be held at more than 30 school sites throughout the city. Meals will be provided. K-8 students will receive yellow bus transportation to and from the nearest K-8 school. High school students will receive tickets to ride RTA. To participate in the Summer Learning Experience, students must attend a CMSD school or be pre-registered to enroll.

    CPA Camp

    Organization: Ohio Society of Certified Professional Accountants

    CPA Camp is an all-expenses-paid experience for students interested in exploring careers in accounting. You will learn how accounting can lead you to career stability, a high salary, and meaningful work! You'll even have the opportunity to earn scholarships.

    Educational Talent Search

    Organization: Cuyahoga Community College

    A program for middle school and high school students to get the skills and motivation necessary to succeed in post-secondary education. Scholars receive a variety of free services and participate in scholastic, cultural, and enrichment activities.

    Summer High School Tech Camp

    Organization: Greater Cleveland Partnership and RITE

    Summer Tech Camps are FREE hands-on computing camps, delivered in partnership with TECH CORPS, that offer a real-world experience in creating and designing with technology. During this full-day, week-long experience, you will be immersed in hands-on computing activities that promote creativity, problem-solving and collaboration with your peers. You also have the opportunity to meet professionals from Northeast Ohio companies and hear about their work in IT.

    Summer IT Camp

    Organization: Educational Service Center (ESC) of Northeast Ohio

    Open to students entering grades 10-12, this camp provides students the chance to learn about information technology, develop skills, engage with interactive technologies, and participate in field experiences. The camp is three days (June 13 – 15, 2022) from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio in Independence, Ohio.

    Jobs, Internships, and Volunteer Work

    Part-Time Jobs

    Organization: Various Companies

    Many companies and organizations will hire students who are 16 and older. These include CVS, Gordon Food Service, Giant Eagle, Chipotle, Five Guys, and many more! While these jobs might not be your career goal, they provide work experience and help you to build your resume while earning income. Many organizations allow you to apply on their website, but some may require a resume.

    Y.O.U. Summer Internship Program

    Organization: Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.)

    Sophomores and juniors gain professional skills and hands-on career exploration experience while earning a stipend and networking in a career field of their interest. Past internships have been in the areas of baking, chef, auto technician, health science, business, cosmetology, nursing, and journalism. All career areas are welcome to apply! Deadline extended for CMSD scholars until May 27, 2022.

    Volunteer Projects

    Organization: College Now

    Students must earn two diploma seals to graduate high school. One of the seals is the Community Service Seal. From June 13 – 24, 2022, College Now Greater Cleveland AmeriCorps program will assist students in fulfilling the requirements by providing structured service opportunities throughout Cleveland. Students will complete 40 hours of community service and have their hours documented and signed. Projects include landscaping, cleaning, organizing, sorting, and packing. These experiences can also be added to your resume.

    Free Tennis Lessons

    Organization: Neighborhood Leadership Institute

    Youth ages 8 to 18 can learn new skills and practice at free tennis lessons on 10 different City of Cleveland courts. Lessons are offered from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 3 p.m.

    LGBTQ+ Youth Sports League

    Organization: West 117 Foundation

    Among the first of its kind in the country, this youth-focused initiative affords LGBTQ+ youth the ability to participate in athletics as their authentic selves. Youth have access to a wide range of sports activities, from structured sports leagues and tournaments to summer camps and unstructured recreational activities. Summer includes a six-week program every Saturday focused on basketball starting in July.

    Nuts and Bolts Academy

    Organization: Cuyahoga Community College

    The Nuts and Bolts Academy provides opportunities for students at multiple grade levels to engage in fun, educational experiences. Various camps expose students to manufacturing and engineering through innovative, hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities.

    Summer Lit League

    Organization: Cleveland Public Library

    The Future is Now...READ! Explore the future at your neighborhood Cleveland Public Library branch May 30, 2022, to July 23, 2022. The Summer Lit League reading program is back with weekly activities, amazing raffles, and more. Make sure to log your books for a chance to win!

    Teen Tech Center at Cleveland Public Library’s Rockport Branch

    Organization: Cleveland Public Library

    A place where teens can explore their interests in programming, film-making, music production, and design. Space contains professional recording, mixing, editing, and video equipment, green screen, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, button makers, and 3D printers. Library members get access to Adobe Creative Cloud access. Mentors work alongside teens, sharing their skills and knowledge and creating a resource for members.
