    5/8/2019 -- Under True2, volunteer mentors from the community work with the eighth-graders for three hours one day a month, talking with them in small groups about choosing the right high school and exploring college or career options.

  • Browns' rookie, United Healthcare blanket school with coats

    2/5/2019 -- Many CMSD families are hard pressed to buy the warm coats needed to get through a Cleveland winter. United Health Care, which partners with James A. Garfield School, teamed up with Cleveland Browns defensive back Denzel Ward and Coats for Kids to provide a new coat for every student in the school.

  • City Year to beautify Benesch to honor King

    1/16/2019 -- City Year Cleveland corps members will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday by beautifying CMSD’s Alfred A. Benesch School. Each year on the holiday named for King, the nonprofit passes on the opportunity to take a day off. Instead, staff spend a “Day On Service” devoted to a community project.

  • University Hospitals, Willson School partner on asthma help

    2/14/2017 -- Medical personnel will work for two years with children who suffer from asthma, assessing and monitoring severity and control of the illness. UH will also enlist the help of Environmental Health Watch, a nonprofit organization that helps prevent and reduce exposure to harmful substances that cause or aggravate serious health conditions in Northeast Ohio. EHW will visit the homes of children with asthma and recommend ways that parents can make their homes healthier places for their kids.
