Special Education

CMSD remains committed to providing inclusive, individualized support in the least restrictive environment. Building Brighter Futures will expand services for scholars with special education needs and increase opportunities for all students, including enrichment classes, extracurriculars, and sports.
Scholars who require specialized single-classroom settings for intensive support will continue to be provided with that support across regions and multiple schools. Every classroom has been reviewed to ensure space and plans for all students. Beginning fall 2026, more schools will offer a full K–8 continuum, allowing students to stay in one school longer for greater stability.
On Friday, December 12, 2025, all CMSD families will receive an email and letter with next year’s school assignments. During the week of January 12, 2026, families with students in special education single classrooms will receive individual communication from the Department of Special Education & Intervention Services.

If you have another child currently enrolled in the same school as your scholar in a Special Education single classroom and you want them to attend the same school next year, this will happen as part of the School Choice Process.
CMSD remains committed to providing high-quality Pre-K across our district, for learners of all needs and abilities. Building Brighter Futures includes plans for Pre-K classrooms at all but one of our K–8 schools in SY 26-27 (currently, four K-8 schools do not offer Pre-K).
Enrollment steps have not changed. Families with Pre-K students can visit our PreK enrollment page for more information.
