• PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions Support

It is a framework or approach comprised of intervention practices and organizational systems for establishing the social culture, learning and teaching environment, and individual behavior supports needed to achieve academic and social success for all students. PBIS is the idea of catching scholars doing good or the right thing. It uses incentives, behavior plans, and other intervention methods to better support scholars. PBIS emphasizes operationally defined and valued outcomes for all students; is based on clearly established behavioral and biomedical sciences that can be applied to address problem behavior in schools. In addition, it emphasizes research-validated practices, interventions, strategies and curriculum to achieve goals and outcomes.

This year at Andrew J. Rickoff, we have implemented PBIS throughout the entire building. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. This new system is our method for rewarding scholars for doing the right thing consistently as well as being proactive in providing support for our students. Our practice for this year is to teach students the right expectations in various areas of the building and to continue to reteach those expectations throughout the school year. Along with teaching them expectations, we will have a reward system in place. Scholars will be able to earn daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly incentives. In addition, attendance will be another component to our reward system. Scholars have to be present in order to participate in the various activities that we have for the students. We are very excited and looking forward to the many things we have planned at Andrew J. Rickoff this year.

    PBIS at Rickoff: Eagle Store

Scholars are given Eagle Bucks throughout the day. Bucks can be earned for reasons like attendance, participation, following school wide expectations, etc...  Once a week, scholars are able to buy items in the Eagle store using their eagle bucks. In addition, students are able to participate in Fun Friday on a monthly basis.
