• Dear Sunbeam Families and Scholars,

I am honored to be introducing myself as the new principal of Sunbeam School. I consider my upcoming work as the new leader of Sunbeam as an incredible opportunity to serve the scholars of Cleveland and to form lasting partnerships with families.

The role of the principalship offers me many new and exciting challenges. Prior to joining the Sunbeam family, I was an educator in the northeast Ohio area for over ten years. I began my teaching career in Euclid City Schools, working as a special education instructor where I became a strong advocate for my students with special needs and served as a teacher leader in my school. In 2018, I had the opportunity to join the Aspiring Principal Program offered in CMSD. In my role as Aspiring Principal, I spent the 2018-2019 school year working as an administrator at Hannah Gibbons STEM School in the Collinwood area as well as Bolton Elementary and receiving hands-on experience in all faces of school leadership. I am now excited to begin my work as the principal of Sunbeam and to collaborate with our educators, support staff, and most importantly, our scholars and families. I believe that with the power of our state-of-the-art facility and the dedication of our educators the sky's the limit in what we can achieve for our students.

I grew up here in the northeast Ohio area and am a proud graduate of Cleveland State University. My husband and I are the parents of two children, a daughter and son. We are preparing to move my daughter into college this fall and my son will begin his sophomore year of high school. I am experiencing the butterflies that come along with sending one child on her way and preparing for the second to begin driving this year. We remain hopeful that we have prepared them both well for the independence to come! I believe that our role as educators is to prepare our scholars as curious and independent learners and future citizens. I am looking forward to infusing our students with a sense of ownership in their learning, as Sunbeam does with the inquiry-based model of learning.

I can’t wait for the opportunity to get to know you and your family! As preparation for the school year begins, I am happy to take time to talk and get to know one another. Please feel free to reach out via phone or email. Mark your calendars for our Back to School Ice Cream Social event on Thursday, August 8th from 3-5pm.

    Sincerely,

    Jessica Humphrey
