What is CMSD Parent University?

CMSD Parent University is a district-level family engagement opportunity designed to help parents, caregivers, and scholars learn, connect, and prepare for success in school and beyond.

Through workshops, family learning experiences, Parent Cafés, college and career readiness opportunities, CMSD Fathers Matter sessions, on-demand learning, and community partner resources, Parent University supports families as vital partners in scholar success.

Parent University is built around lifelong learning and family leadership. Sessions are designed to help families better understand what scholars are learning, strengthen advocacy skills, support child development, build parent leadership, and access tools that can be used at home, at school, and in the community.


Program Objective

What will families learn?

Support lifelong learning by educating and empowering families as partners to enhance the scholar’s academic achievements.

Parent University is organized around four learning strands that help families Stand TALL for scholar success:

  • Parents as Teachers
  • Parents as Advocates
  • Parents as Learners
  • Parents as Leader
CMSD Parent U Promo

CMSD Parent University will host four district-level Saturday family learning experiences during the 2026–27 school year.

Each Parent University Saturday will include opportunities for families and scholars to participate in rotating sessions, connect with CMSD departments and community partners, and leave with tools and resources to support scholar success.

Dates:

  • Saturday, October 24, 2026
  • Saturday, December 12, 2026
  • Saturday, February 20, 2027
  • Saturday, April 17, 2027

Time:

  • 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Each Saturday experience will include:

  • Be Strong Families’ Parent Café

  • CMSD Fathers Matter

  • Family Matters: College & Career Edition

  • Rotating sessions led by CMSD departments and community partners, as available

Signature Parent University Experiences

Partner with Parent University

CMSD departments and community organizations are invited to support Parent University by offering family-centered learning sessions, resources, and engagement opportunities.

Sessions may focus on academic success, Family Matters: College & Career Edition, family wellness, social-emotional learning, mental health, digital access, parent leadership, and other topics that support CMSD families and scholars.

Presenters may be invited to support one school, a network of schools, or district-level Parent University experiences based on family needs, school requests, and presenter availability.

Interested presenters may complete the Parent University Request for Proposal form to share their session idea.
