District salutes volunteers

CMSD said "Thank you" on Tuesday to nearly 2,600 people who volunteer in  District schools.
The District hosted volunteers at a reception at Max S. Hayes High School. The school board and Chief Executive Officer Eric Gordon then had them stand and be recognized at a board meeting that followed. (See photo above.)
More than 2,000 people volunteer on their own, while another 598 participate through their affiliation with 22 of the District's community partners. More than 250 volunteers are retirees, including many who made careers in education.
Organizations contributing the largest numbers of volunteers include Greater Cleveland Volunteers (153 tutors, 46 mentors and 200 other volunteers), the federal government (124 tutors), the Jewish Federation of Cleveland (77 tutors) and the Foster Grandparent Program (48 volunteers).
