The popular Mother’s Day hanging basket sale at Washington Park Environmental Studies high school is underway and the spring plant sale is right behind.

“This is one of our biggest events of the year, along with the holiday plant sale in December,” said Donald Laux, horticulture teacher at the high school, which sits right next to the Cleveland Metroparks' Washington Golf Course.

“We’re so pleased that we’re able to do this with students and give them practical skills in not only the growing, raising, fertilizing and watering the plants, but in sales, too.”

On Thursday morning, a handful of shoppers browsed the 13,000 square-foot greenhouse, home to about 1,200 hanging baskets and some 140,000 bedding plants. They were buying small hanging baskets for $10 and larger ones for $15.

The Mother’s Day sale runs from 8:30-3:30 today at 3875 Washington Park. The spring plant sale is from May 14-21.
