CMSD schools will celebrate national Food Day on Friday with school menus that feature items from local and regional sources.
Schools will serve fresh tossed romaine and jewel mix salad from the Green City Growers co-op in Cleveland, fresh apples from Bauman Orchards in Rittman, blended fruit juice from Country Pure Foods in Akron, milk from Dairymens Milk in Cleveland and oven-roasted red and white potatoes from Pigeon River, Mich.
The District also will participate in the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch celebration on Friday, encouraging students to eat locally grown apples and other healthy food.
Both Food Day and the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch come during National Farm to School Month.
The nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest sponsors Food Day in an effort to improve Americans’ diets and change food policies.
