**Honors Algebra I**

**Course Description:** Honors Algebra I is a college preparatory course is a course designed to introduce students to the foundations of many mathematics principles and concepts. It will provide a rigorous study of traditional algebra topics from the State Standards including, solving equations and inequalities, graphing and solving both linear and quadratic equations, solving systems of equations, properties of exponents, working with polynomials and factoring, and operations with rational expressions. This course is designed to build on students’ prior understanding of mathematics and to develop the solid foundation needed to succeed at the honors level throughout the high school math curriculum. *Prerequisites: None*

**Honors Geometry**

**Course Description:** Geometry reviews the geometric concepts of previous math courses, and in addition, it encourages and guides the student in the discovery of new geometric concepts. Geometry stresses the ability to reason logically and to think critically. A major part of the course will be devoted to teaching the student how to present a formal proof. Geometric properties of both two and three dimensions are emphasized as they apply to points, lines, planes, circles, and polygons. *Prerequisites: Algebra I*

**Honors Algebra II**

**Course Description: **Algebra 2 provides students with a review and extension of the concepts taught in Algebra 1. Topics covered will include operations with real numbers, systems of linear equations and inequalities, factoring, algebraic fractions and fractional equations, quadratic functions and some work with conic sections, exponential functions, complex numbers, and logarithms. *Prerequisites: Algebra I, Geometry*

**Honors Pre-Calculus **

**Course Description: **Honors Pre-Calculus will begin the year with a review of Honors Algebra II, while concurrently being exposed to the same ideas on a more rigorous level. After the rigorous treatment of Algebra II, students will then be exposed to the fundamental ideas of differentiable calculus like limits of functions, average rates of change of functions, and the instantaneous rate of change of a function. This will ensure a smooth AP Calculus AB experience during 12th grade. Students who take this course will certainly have an easier transition to AP Calculus. This is the first offering of a course in the math department that is specifically aimed at increasing AP scores, yet will also be beneficial to those seeking ACT score enhancement. *Prerequisites: Honors Algebra II *

**College Algebra**

**Course Description:** College Algebra begins with a review of Honors Algebra II, while concurrently being exposed to the same ideas on a more rigorous level. After the rigorous treatment of Algebra II, students will then be exposed to the fundamental ideas of differentiable calculus like limits of functions, average rates of change of functions, and the instantaneous rate of change of a function. This will ensure a smooth Calculus experience for students during their freshman year of college. Pitch: Students who take this course will certainly have an easier transition to their first Calculus course in college. This is the first offering of a course in the math department that is specifically aimed at increasing AP scores, yet will also be beneficial to those seeking ACT score enhancement if needed during the beginning of their Senior Year. One of three options for Seniors during their senior year to earn their fourth and final math credit. The others are AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics. *Prerequisites: Honors Algebra II*

**Advanced Placement Calculus AB (AP Calc AB)**

**Course Description: **AP Calc AB is an introductory course in differential and integral calculus. Students will be exposed to topics such as the instantaneous rate of change of a function, optimizing real-life situations, the area between two curves in the coordinate plane, and many more. Solving problems in a variety of ways are a valuable feature of the course, with students solving problems using tabular data, graphical data, algebraic methods, and numerical methods. *Prerequisites: Honors Algebra II *

**Advanced Placement Statistics (AP Stats)**

**Course Description: **AP Stats is equivalent to a one-semester, introductory, non-calculus-based college course in statistics. The course introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. There are four themes in the AP Statistics course: exploring data, sampling and experimentation, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference. Students use technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing as they build their understanding. *Prerequisites: Algebra II*
