Portal open for high school choice
CMSD’s online choice portal is open, allowing eighth graders and their families to begin selecting a high school for next school year.
Under The Cleveland Plan for education reform, CMSD allows students to attend any school they and their families choose, provided that space is available and, in a few cases, the students meet admissions criteria.
The portal, ChooseCMSD.org, will accept high school choices until Feb. 5. Families can select up to five schools, ranking them in order of preference.
Families of students who are already enrolled in a school but want to change schools also may submit choices.
Students whose choices are submitted during the first round will learn their school assignments on Feb. 22.
The portal will reopen from March 1 through April 23 for both high school and PreK-8 or K-8 choices. This is the first year that preschool choices may be made by using the portal.
Assignments made in the second round will be announced May 7, 2021.
Special note to families of students who will be entering ninth-grade: Students who graduate from CMSD high schools are eligible for Say Yes to Education scholarships, which pay up to the full value of tuition, minus federal and state aid, to all public colleges and universities and Pell-eligible training programs in Ohio and more than 100 private colleges and universities across the country. To qualify, students must be continuously enrolled in a CMSD high school and live in the District or City of Cleveland from ninth grade through graduation.
