6 CMSD schools among America’s healthiest
Six CMSD schools have earned places on a list of America’s Healthiest Schools.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation recognized 406 schools in 26 states. The CMSD schools include:
- Almira
- Clara E. Westropp
- Miles Park
- Robinson G. Jones
- Walton
- William Rainey Harper
Schools on the list are honored for efforts to strengthen the physical, mental, and social and emotional health of students, staff and families.
Walton School earned recognition for a variety of efforts, including weekly literacy-themed Yoga for students and a monthly distribution of free fruits and vegetables to families in partnership with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
Examples at William Rainey Harper include providing “calming spaces” for students as part of social and emotional learning and working with Hunger Network and other community organizations throughout the month to supply produce, bread and baked goods to and families.
CMSD schools have participated in the Healthiest Schools program for 10 years. Up to 20 schools have been recognized in the past.
