CMSD’s valedictorians and salutatorians are headed into the future with the top rankings in their class and scholarships worth more than $14.1 million in the first year alone.
The Board of Education honored the 61 seniors (See the full list) at the start of the board meeting Tuesday at Max S. Hayes High School. Before the meeting, the District hosted the students and their parents at a reception at the school.
The largest portion of the students – 14 – will attend Cleveland State University, while nine are going to Case Western Reserve University. Others are bound for institutions such as Oberlin College, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Tuskegee University, Morehouse College, Ohio State University and the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Among the scholarship recipients was Cleveland School of Architecture & Design salutatorian Sophie Hull, one of 100 high school seniors nationwide to receive the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. Sophie, who is going to Oberlin, will also receive academic, graduate school and career advising, as well as opportunities for internships, study abroad, and access to graduate school funding.
Angelina Pfister, salutatorian at Bard High School Early College, received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. She was also offered a full scholarship to the U.S. Naval Academy.
The value of the scholarships represents money received on top of Say Yes to Education Cleveland scholarships.
