Luther M. Oviatt , Superintendent 1861-1863

Luther Oviatt    Luther Oviatt was principal at Prospect Street School and Eagle Street Grammar School before becoming superintendent of the Cleveland schools. (1861-1863). He helped to establish Ohio’s public library system. He became the first Librarian of the Cleveland Public Library. John D. Rockefeller and Laura C. Spellman (later Rockefeller wife) were Oviatt’s students.
