Low-income families can obtain computers at low cost from the nonprofit PCs for People.
Desktops start at $25 and laptops start at $50. PCs for People also provides low-cost Internet service via mobile hotspots for as little as $11.25 per month.
Recipients must have income below the 200 percent poverty level or be enrolled in an income-based government assistance program.
For both in-store and online orders, a recipient must have:
A photo ID
A document that proves eligibility and has the recipient’s name printed on it. The document must be dated within the last six months, unless it is a tax return or other annual document.
PCs for People recycles and refurbishes computers.
The nonprofit picks up electronic waste free from businesses and educational and governmental organizations. PCs for People accepts nearly all electronic waste -- including computers, peripherals, monitors, cables, drives and more.
