The Cleveland School of Science and Medicine symbolically conferred full membership on ninth-graders and other new students last week in the annual White Coat Ceremony.
The ceremony is a unique rite of passage. The lab coat signifies formal welcome into the school “community,” Principal Michelle Perez said.
“It is a very special moment at CSSM,” she said.
CMSD opened the Cleveland School of Science and Medicine in 2006 with hospitals, the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and other partners. It was among the first of many high school models that students can choose from in the District’s portfolio system.
CSSM, the Cleveland School of Architecture and Design and Cleveland Early College High School make up the John Hay Campus, located in University Circle.
