The Cleveland Board of Education has named the media center at the new Oliver H. Perry School in honor of Cleveland political legend George Voinovich, his wife, Janet, and their daughter, Molly.
George Voinovich, who died in 2016, served as Cleveland mayor, Ohio governor and a U.S. senator.
Along with his wife, he made annual donations to the school, where Molly, was a fourth-grader when she died in 1979. Molly was walking to school after lunch when she was struck and killed by a van that ran a red light. Each year, the school holds a Molly Day celebration in her honor.
The new school, located on Schenely Avenue, opened in January.
