Cleveland police, students forming bond (Video)

If you’ve seen Cleveland police cars parked outside a CMSD school recently, it doesn't mean there is cause for concern. Community engagement officers are making friendly visits to read to students, play with them at recess or socialize at lunch.

It’s part of the city’s effort to the bridge the gap between the people who live in the neighborhoods and those who protect them, and it is helping students see the officers in a whole new light.

Each Cleveland police district has three community engagement officers. Besides the schools, they also visit recreation centers, libraries and parks and meet with City Council members and neighborhood community development corporations.

This was the first full school year for the engagement officers. The program began in summer 2018.
