Students, faculty and staff from the Cleveland Institute of Music gave CMSD's growing arts program a hand Friday by sorting through and cataloging a supply of old musical instruments.
Volunteers worked for three hours at the District's Woodland Warehouse, evaluating brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments to determine what was playable and what could be repaired. They planned to create a database that would let schools know the types and numbers of instruments in stock.
The project was part of the music institute's third annual Day of Service. More than 180 volunteers worked at Woodland or the Cleveland Metroparks West Creek Reservation in Parma.
