As part of their company's annual Day of Service, about 30 Aramark employees prepared garden beds Thursday at Patrick Henry School so students and their families could plant fall flowers. The workers also repainted a U.S. map and game areas on the school playground. The company, which has partnered with the school for two years, carried out the projects with help from Lowes.

Contributions from Ararmark, a global provider of food, facilities and uniform services, didn't stop there. The volunteers also helped out at a Patrick Henry Family Night, providing a cooking demonstration and nutrition information for families and assisting them with resumes. Students went home with backpacks that Armark obtained from the Cleveland Clinic.

The volunteers also removed dead trees and laid down mulch during a day that began before 7 a.m. and lasted until 7 p.m.

Principal Brittany Anderson said students spent time in the gardens Friday, talking about "taking care of the community." Older students worked on their own service plans.

"I am extremely thankful for the partnership with Aramark," Anderson said.

More than 12,000 Aramark volunteers donated time Thursday to 350 service projects in 15 countries.
