The Garrett Morgan School of Leadership and Innovation (GMLI) celebrated a milestone as its inaugural graduating class of 2024 walked across the stage, celebrating four years of hard work and perseverance.
Despite starting their high school career not being able to walk the halls of their brand-new building due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the GMLI graduates displayed resilience, determination, and a commitment to learning more about the school's mission of building global leaders.
Principal Anshawn Ivery, reflecting on the journey, expressed profound pride in the graduating class, saying, "I'm excited for our first graduating class here at Garrett Morgan. We started back on Zoom, and now to see our school actualize, to see the first graduating class living out our mission, it's truly remarkable."
The first graduating class, comprising 104 students, has a 95% graduation rate, with many students either enrolling into college, entering the workforce, or enlisting in the military.
Arianette says, with the help of the GMLI staff, she plans to attend Ohio State University on a full scholarship.
“I am excited,” said Arianette, who will be a first-generation college student. “It's bittersweet leaving high school, but I'm grateful for the opportunities and growth.”
As the first graduating class of Garrett Morgan School of Leadership and Innovation, these students leave a legacy of resilience, compassion, and leadership.
