Lily Kwiatkowski, Cleveland School of Science and Medicine

Notable: Student panelist at 2018 Council of Great City Schools National Conference in Baltimore, spoke about her environmental activism. Received Joan C. Edwards Scholarship, covering full cost of undergraduate study and medical school at Case Western Reserve University.

Plans for the future: Obtain medical degree along with a master’s degree in surgery or public health. Undecided on specialty but wants to practice medicine at Cleveland Clinic or University Hospitals.

Challenges faced: Stress management, balancing school with social life. 

Who deserves the most credit for her success? Her mother, for inspiring Lily’s passion for science. Her mother is director of math and science at Case Western Reserve University’s Leonard Gelfand STEM Center, engaging K-12 students in hands-on science through camps, after-school programs and more.
