Happy National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day to our CMSD RDNs!

Today, March 10th, we celebrate our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs). Dietitians study the way our body uses food for energy through science, math, and cooking classes.
Dietitians can work in many places including hospitals, nursing homes, sports teams, kitchens, and schools. They help people find foods that fit their needs.
You may be asking yourself, what does a dietitian do in a school? There are many things that a dietitian can do to support students and staff in a school. Allison Thirion, MPH, RD, LD, one of CMSD’s dietitians, works with the chef and other kitchen staff to make the school menu. She also makes sure that there are safe options for anyone with a food allergy. They make sure the breakfast and lunch menus have healthy and tasty options. With a variety of meals given each week, you will be sure to get everything you need to focus on and do well in school.
Our other dietitian, Leilah Absi, MS, RD, LD, is our Project Manager. She is our main communications officer and works on a variety of projects including the upkeep of our policies and procedures, video training, and runs our social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Make sure to reach out and thank the RDNs in your school or community for all that they do!
