The Cleveland Browns, CMSD and the city broke ground Tuesday for installation of a synthetic-turf football field at John Adams High School.
The field is the fourth of five that the team is donating to the District and will be placed on what is now empty land. Senate League football teams are sharing the new fields, along with school soccer and Cleveland Muny Football League teams and the community.
The Cleveland Browns Foundation is the lead partner in the District's ongoing "Get 2 School, You Can Make It!" attendance campaign. Team owner Dee Haslam, who was present for the groundbreaking, said the new fields are part of that mission.

"Kids who are involved in athletics are going to go to school," said Haslam, who was accompanied by Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas, running back Duke Johnson Jr. and kicker Cody Parkey. "That's going to impact chronic absenteeism. It's going to make a difference in this community."
CMSD will install bleachers at the field but needs to identify funding if a stadium is to be built. District Chief Executive Officer Eric Gordon said he is working with ward Councilman Zach Reed to add amenities.
Reed told John Adams students, staff and alumni that he would work to develop an athletic complex. He said that will require help from community partners.
