2025 Excellence in Teaching Award winners announced
Congratulations to this year’s CMSD prestigious Excellence in Teaching Award winners! This year’s honorees were surprised on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, by an impressive entourage, made up of CMSD CEO Dr. Warren Morgan, Shari Obrenski, the head of the Cleveland Teachers’ Union, and representatives from the George Gund Foundation and the Cleveland Foundation.

CMSD improves academic proficiency in all tested areas on State report card
Sept. 15, 2025 - The release of the State of Ohio’s school district report card for the 2024/25 school year shows the Cleveland Metropolitan School District saw academic proficiency improvements in every tested area, some by more than 10 percentage points over last year’s scores.

Good attendance means missing less than 10 days of school in an academic year. That’s why it’s time to STEP UP and make every day count! We know that good attendance increases students’ reading and math scores, and paves the way to a successful future and graduation. It’s important to STEP UP and attend school every day!
