The Glenville Boys Track and Field Team defended their 2022 state title to become champions for a second year in a row at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II Outdoor Track and Field State championships.

Coach Ted Ginn, Sr., who calls his team the ‘pandemic group of kids,’ praised the student-athletes for their hard work and for taking care of business.

“To be a champion, you have to have great staff and great coaches that can endure all the work that you have to put in to keep kids focused,” said Ginn.

This is Glenville’s eighth state title under Coach Ginn and 18th overall for the storied track program.

Just days after this latest victory at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, the team received their championship rings from winning the state title last year.

Jalen Carter, who competed in the 300 hurdles, long jump, and triple jump during last year's state tournament, was one of the first to pick up his ring.

He slid the ring, embedded with crystals with the words state champions and the Glenville logo in gold, onto his ring finger and let out a slight chuckle. And, of course, you know what he did next: He pulled out his phone to share the ring on social media.

“It feels good,” said Jalen who plans to attend Central State University and play football. “Not a lot of people have this experience, this as an honor.”

Coach Ginn says the championship rings will be a lasting reminder of a great season.

“This is just icing on the cake," said Ginn. “These kids can keep this ring for a lifetime and show it to their grandkids. I'm just thankful that the kids will get the rings they deserve.”
