    Greetings Harvey Rice Parents/Guardians,

I would like to take a moment to welcome our returning families back to another productive academic year and extend a welcome to our new families joining us this school year. Here at Harvey Rice our mission is to “Ensure Safety, Respect, and Achievement for all students, staff, and members of our community”. To put this mission in action, we have several new changes that we have put in place.

First our school has adopted the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports System (also known as PBIS) which is a school wide initiative to improve school culture and climate while maintaining an environment conducive for learning. Every student, staff, and family member will play a vital role in this program’s success. This initiative is so important that we ask you to join us in our effort to create consistency for our student’s behaviors. Every parent will receive a copy of our newly created “PBIS Home Rubric” to help support our collective desire for our scholars to display positive behaviors both in and away from school.

Also new this year we have added three student support personnel members with the addition of a Dean of Engagement, and 2 School Linkage Coordinators. These new positions are designed to support our scholars in reaching their highest potential in academics and engagement, by tracking their achievement and participation in their learning environment providing additional intensive supports as needed.

Lastly we have added a Reading Recovery Teacher for grades Kindergarten through 3rd, in order to increase the number of students on track for meeting and/or exceeding the Third Grade Guarantee.

We have work to do ahead of us to meet our goals, however I am confident that we have the right people, at the right time, to do the right work, needed to ensure that every scholar succeeds at Harvey Rice Wraparound School.

    Educationally Yours,
    Jason L. Tidmore Sr.
