 Dear Parents and Guardians,

It’s that time of year – the holidays are upon us. I know that many of you are thinking of or are already planning for the holidays. As you begin to prepare for the season, I’d like to stress the importance of school attendance. Every year, we see the number of absences rise during the weeks leading up to and the weeks following winter break. We recognize that holidays are an important time of year for families to reconnect, however our school’s attendance goal is 93% or more. So far, we are slightly below that at 91% but you can help us reach our goal by sending your child to school on time (7:30 a.m.) every day.

As you plan for the holidays, please keep in mind that there are only 3 weeks left in this marking period. The first semester will be ending on December 21st. This means that students will be taking their winter NWEA tests for Math and Reading as well as their end of the semester assessments from November 26th through December 21st. These final weeks are critical for students, with final semester grades being posted on their academic transcripts.  The second semester of school will begin on January 7, 2019. Not being in attendance during the first few weeks of the semester can really put students behind. Regular attendance throughout the year is important for the success of our students. In particular, the beginning and closing of a semester can play a significant role in their overall performance.

This holiday season, continue to make education a priority and ensure that your children are in school. I want to thank you for your continued support and wish you a happy and safe holiday season.
