William Cullen Bryant Vision for the Instructional Core

    ELA

Classrooms are rich in complex, informational text that reflects real-world experiences and spans across content areas.  Teachers plan instruction in which they serve as facilitators, ask higher-order, text dependent questions, and use a variety of assessments to gauge students understanding in order to personalize learning.  Students demonstrate their thinking verbally and in writing while engaging in independent and collaborative work and exercise responsible decision-making skills.

    Math

Classrooms will be rich in opportunities for students to build procedural skills, fluency, conceptual understanding, and the ability to apply those skills to real-world mathematical problems.  Teachers will plan instruction in which they serve as facilitators, provide multi-step math problems that have various solution paths, and use assessments to gauge student understanding in order to personalize learning.  Students model their thinking in many ways while engaging in independent and collaborative work and exercise responsible decision-making skills.
