NEIGHBORHOOD BRANCH STORYTIMES Many branches and the Youth Services Department at the Main Library downtown offer storytimes for children ages 5 and under. Age- and developmentally-appropriate early literacy sessions for babies (birth to 18 months), toddlers (18 months to 3 years), and preschoolers (ages 3 – 5) enhance parent/caregiver and child bonding over books and stories, build a foundation of pre-reading skills, introduce social skills and model group dynamics needed to succeed in school. Exposing children to 1,000 or more books before age 5 builds better literacy skills and is proven to improve educational attainment throughout life.
