Before football players from three CMSD high schools took the field this season, the Greater Cleveland Dental Society provided them with free examinations and fitted them for customized mouth guards.

The services were part of the dental society's "Safe Smiles" program, an effort by the dentists to give back to the community. Case Western Reserve University dental students assisted.

Players from John F. Kennedy High School, the John Hay Campus and James F. Rhodes high schools benefitted this year. The group plans to expand the services to three more high schools next year.
