CMSD taking charter applications
CMSD NEWS BUREAU
12/4/2015
CMSD is taking applications from charter schools interested in having the District serve as their state-mandated sponsor, or authorizer.
Only charter organizations intending to replicate existing school models will be eligible for sponsorship this year.
The organizations have until Friday, Dec. 11 to file notice of intent to apply for sponsorship. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
The District will interview applicant representatives during the week of Jan. 17, and a review team will make recommendations to the Board of Education on Feb. 9.
The board is expected to vote on applications Feb. 23.
CMSD began sponsoring charter schools in 2005 and now serves as the authorizer for 10. The District partners with seven other charter schools and shares a slice of levy money with all 17. Cleveland is the only district in Ohio and one of the few in the country that shares tax money with charter schools.
The Cleveland Plan, a citywide blueprint for education reform, calls for giving students the best possible education, regardless of the provider.
