Applications are being taken for an open seat on the Cleveland Board of Education.
The new school board member will replace Stephanie Morales, who has resigned effective Aug. 1, and complete a four-year term that expires on June 30, 2019. Morales, who joined the board in 2013, resigned to take a job in another state.
Mayor Frank G. Jackson will make the appointment after receiving at least three recommendations from an 11-member nominating panel.
Cleveland's mayor selects board members under a state law that took effect in 1998. The nine members, who must live in the District, serve without pay.
Applications,
which may be found here, are due by the close of business on Friday Aug. 12.
