Cleveland school district searching for teachers with a certain attitude about urban children
September 09, 2013 by Patrick O'Donnell, The Plain Dealer
It's a different approach for the district, which hasn't had to hire teachers in large numbers for years. This is the first time in several years that the district has not had to lay off teachers due to budget deficits and a declining student population. About 320 people have applied for the 150 slots to date and the district expects more to come in.
Eric Gordon, the district's chief executive officer, has said several times that he wants to fill these jobs carefully, to find teachers who are not just qualified, but want to make it their mission to help under-achieving students reach their potential.
